Angola is a beautiful community nestled in the northeast corner of Indiana. We are fast becoming a destination city because of our 101 lakes, Pokagon State Park, Trine University (formerly Tri-State University), a nationally recognized k-12 school system and a hard working, well-trained work force. Many changes are occurring or will soon be occurring with our community landscape. Trine University is in the middle of a $90 million dollar Capital Campaign. A new Student Center and several new residential apartments have been built. Three new fraternity houses have been built on campus. The football stadium has a new artificial turf for both football and lacrosse. The new state of the art "Arc" athletic building has been completed. It will accommodate indoor tennis, lacrosse, track and many other sports. Trine University has also announced plans for its new Furth Performing Arts Center. This will be a wonderful addition to the university and to our city. Trine University is one of many great assets our community has available to us. Construction of our new bike and walking trail has been completed. Over 4 miles of bike trails are now available in our city. We have received two OCRA grants for $500,000.00 each to be used toward the downtown revitalization. These grants will be used to enhance the beauty and safety of our downtown that will make shopping and traveling through our downtown an even more pleasant experience. Construction on the downtown projects will begin in the summer of 2010. A new water tower is being constructed and will be completed the spring of 2010 at the intersection of I-69 and US Hwy 20. This will allow for continued commercial growth in that area along with the expansion of the Buck Lake Terrace Community. The last parcel of right-of-way has been purchased for the Wohlert Street extension. Construction on this project will be started in the spring of 2010. This extension will allow industrial traffic to flow from one industrial park to the other without having to drive onto North Wayne Street. Cameron Memorial Hospital has announced its future plans to build a new hospital just east of our downtown area next to its current campus. This is great news for our future health care and our downtown. We are also partnering with the private sector and Trine University to work on the creation of a High Tech Park to help bring new higher paying jobs for people in our community as well as to help entrepreneurs to start businesses in Angola and Steuben County. With Indiana being known as the "Crossroads of America" then Angola must be the "Main Intersection". With US Hwy 20, the Indiana Toll Road and I-69 going through our county. Please contact us with any questions you may have about our beautiful city. Sincerely, Richard M.
