Angola Planning & Economic Development
The Department of Planning and Economic Development promotes economic development to include industry, business, and residential. The Department prepares and presents verbal and written technical assistance reports gathered from on-site inspection and research on a case-by-case basis for the Mayor, Common Council, Plan Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals . The Department also serves as the staff person to the City's Economic Development Commission, Redevelopment Commission, and Historic Preservation Commission.
The Department also assists, advises and explains to petitioners, the public and developers, the process and procedures for zone changes, variances, special exceptions, and subdivision and zoning ordinance requirements.
The Department is also responsible for issuing City Sign permits.
The Unified Development Ordinance (which takes the place of our previous zoning and subdivision control ordinance) has been adopted and will become effective June 11, 2008. Other projects underway are the Downtown 20/20 Plan and an owner-occupied rehabilitation housing program that may lead to grant opportunities for local homeowners. We are also happy to offer free workshops that range from business plan development for budding entrepreneurs to restoration workshops for historic building owners.
If you want to get more involved in your community or have additional questions, please contact City Planner Julie Johns-Cole at jcole@angolain.org or 260-665-7465.

- Promote the adaptive reuse of the surrounding environment through planning, preservation and education.
- To recognize preservation efforts to encourage community support in ongoing historic preservation endeavors.
Therefore, an application for a Certification of Appropriateness* may be required for work to be done on buildings located in the downtown district. For more information please call or e-mail the Angola City Planning Office at 260-665-7465 or jcole@angolain.org .
