March 14, 2023 - Jennifer Barclay, City of Angola Director of Economic Development & Planning is pleased to announce that Mackenzie Bird has joined the City of Angola as Community Coordinator. In this new role, Mackenzie will be responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing programs and initiatives that cultivate community engagement through innovation and productive relationship building. She will work with a variety of stakeholders, including local residents, businesses, community groups, non-profit organizations, and government agencies, to identify the needs and priorities of the community and develop strategies to address them. |
Mackenzie brings six years of experience as an elementary school teacher. Prior to joining the City of Angola, she worked for Carnival Cruise Line as entertainment staff, Rise Inc. as direct care staff, and in other capacities of education for seven years. Mackenzie was responsible for planning and coordinating events, building relationships, and collaborating with diverse groups to execute a variety of initiatives and events. With her excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong organizational and project management talents, Mackenzie plans to foster a strong, resilient, and connected community.
Mackenzie holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Trine University where she attended after graduating from Angola High School in 2010. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong ability to show patience, be creative and adaptable with a focus on positive relationships. She is excited to bring her experience and expertise to the City of Angola. Angola is Mackenzie’s hometown and she is eager to work alongside her lifetime neighbors and this talented team to achieve our city’s goals.
In her free time, Mackenzie enjoys the arts and dance. She danced most of her life at The Dance Factory where she now works as a teacher and choreographer for their National Award-Winning competitive dance team, Dance Trilogy. She loves spending weekends coaching and cheering on her team at dance competitions and recitals. Mackenzie is excited to begin this new chapter in her career with the City of Angola.
