Fire Department Responds to several field fires

The nice weather over the last few days have brought people outdoors cleaning up their yards and getting ready for spring.  With this there have been several fires that have gotten out of control that the fire department has responded to.

As a reminder there is NO burning of yard waste or trash within the Angola city limits.  You may have small campfires so long as you have a completed a Permit for Open Burn and follow the ordinance requirements.  You may apply for a Permit for Open Burn on the Fire Department page of the city website or in person at the Fire Station.

If you live outside the city limits and are burning yard waste, please follow these suggestions:

  1. Do not burn on windy days.
  2. Do not burn within 40’ of any structure.
  3. Keep the pile small (less than 3’ high and 5’ across).
  4. Never leave a fire unattended.
  5. Have a water source nearby to completely extinguish the fire when done.
  6. Have a phone available to call 9-1-1 in the event the fire spreads.
