Welcome to the City of Angola, Indiana-the crossroads and gateway to the northeast corner of Indiana. We serve as a destination community for tourists, businesses and industries and we are also the County seat of Steuben County. Angola is surrounded by the county’s 101 lakes, Pokagon State Park, Trine University, Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, our excellent K-12 Steuben County Metropolitan School District and a well educated and hardworking workforce.
Angola survived the pandemic and are moving forward with numerous different projects in our community. We are like many communities throughout the country as we are needing more homes and apartments to help bring more people to live and work in our community. Angola has many jobs to fill and our staff has been working hard with developers to start filling this need.
On the northeast side of the City we have a new 135 lot single-family housing subdivision that is underway. On the west side of the city we have a 219 apartment complex that is being proposed and a 100 unit apartment complex that is moving dirt already. A 60 unit apartment complex is being proposed on the east side for those 55 and over.
Angola and Steuben County is a great place to retire and enjoy one of our beautiful 101 lakes, Pokagon State Park with its refrigerated toboggan run, work or raise your family or start a business. We have beautiful walking and biking trails in our city that are connected to Lake James and Pokagon State Park. We are also fortunate to have excellent K-12 schools systems in our city and county as well as Trine University which is the fastest growing private university in the state. Trine has many degrees available including engineering, business, teaching including Montessori teaching degrees, computerization along with several health field degrees and many more. Trine is also the home to the T. Furth Center for the Performing Arts which has several concerts each year with nationally known talent, state of the art MTI Basketball Arena, Steel Dynamics Hockey Arena and the Shine Football Stadium making this a one of a kind NCAA Division III University.
We are extremely fortunate to have Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in our city. The doctors, nurses and stall give our community great health care. The administration is always looking to increase the health care options for our area.
This past summer we had a new event come to Angola. The Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society brought their early 20th century Nickle Plate 765 steam engine to Angola. It was here for several weekends and they had several different excursions that allowed thousands of people see what railroad life was like in the early 20th century. We are planning on them being in Angola several times in 2023.
In 2023 Steuben County will be building a new Judicial Center. This new building has been talked about and needed for years. The Steuben County Commissioners will be looking to see what the best use for our historic courthouse.
Education, entertainment, recreation, retirement and a safe and beautiful community make Angola a great place to live, work and play. That’s why Angola is known for “Proudly working together to make dreams a reality”. So come join us in Angola for a visit and you might just stay a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Richard M. Hickman
